Artifact 4a: Reflecting on Teaching During my intern year at The College of Idaho we were required to do three total recordings of instruction. I found it very helpful to record myself teach because I would pick up on reoccurring phrases I used and specific thing I could improve on. I often try and reflect on my instruction right after I have just taught it but that does not always happen because of time. Reflecting on my own teaching is an important trait that I will continue throughout my career because there is always room for improvement. When I teach in my own classroom I am going to occasionally record a lesson as a way to reflect on my own practices. Another strategy I want to do for self reflection is a daily journal. I will write down a brief description of the lessons I thought, what went well, and what could improve. Below is a self reflection write up for a videotaped math lesson from my 1st placement in the 2nd grade. After recording and reflecting, I realized phrases I would continually say as well as my wait time, questioning and discussion techniques. Through the activity I was able to find ways to improve my instruction.
Artifact 4d: Participating in a Professional Community
I am currently in the M.A.T program at the College of Idaho studying Project GLAD (Guided Language Acquisition Design). My thesis, “An Exploration of the Impact of GLAD Strategies in a Single Classroom Case Study," is created to help guide my instruction by understanding the different strategies used in classrooms to help the diverse population. This year, 2015, I have had opportunities to collaborate with a principal who is certified in GLAD. At The College of Idaho I was able to co-teach two seminar class periods, showing them the different GLAD strategies and how it enhanced a lesson and unit. This opportunity help propel my thesis writing in the correct direction, but more importantly it provided me with the opportunity to share an amazing instructional model with my peers. The image below is a sentence frame strategy I had the college undergraduate complete after filling out a class sentence frame chart.

Artifact 4d: Participating in a Professional Community It is important for teachers to be knowledgeable on any 504s or IEPs for students in their class. In the fall I attended my first 504 meeting that included one of my 2nd grade students. It was very important that my lead and I attend so we would be informed on any accommodations for the student. The opportunity to become informed on this student help me plan my instruction and to be mindful of the accommodations I needed to give the student. Attending meetings of the same nature for IEPs and any RTIs are crucial for teachers to attend.

Artifact 4e: Growing and Developing Professionally While in my 2nd placement I have had an abundance of opportunities to participate in professional development. One of the most recent professional developments was a cross collaboration between 4th and 5th grade. It was led by the principal and her main objective was to develop solid writing goals for each quarter of the 2015-2016 school year. Every time I get the chance to collaborate with experienced teachers I learn so much. I was able to develop the writing goals with the 4th grade team because I will be with them next year. The process of creating the goals was a great experience and I believe having a solid foundation going into the fall will propel writing next year. Though I was apart of creating 4th grade's plan, 5th grade had amazing ideas for different traits of writing and use of portfolios.
